The Faculty of Engineering in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka Enugu State was established as a College of Engineering in 1961. The establishment of the College, later named Faculty of Engineering became the first Faculty of Engineering in University in Nigeria. The first Dean of the Faculty was Prof. J.A. Veltrop. The present Dean is Ven. Prof. T.C. Madueme, a professor of Electronic Power Systems.

There have been 22 past Deans of the Faculty since its inception. There are 21 Professors and a total of 70 academic staff in the Faculty. 50% of the academic staff strength are in the Senior Lecturer cadre and above. The Department of Electronic Engineering was named a Center of Excellence in Electronics by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1982.
It is renowned for its prestigious graduates and is one of the most sought after programs to study at the university. The department has consistently produced the Best Graduating Student of the University and Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Engineering.
Also, it is the first and only school in Nigeria to Have Electronics Engineering as an Independent Dept.

(b) Pass at upper credit HND examination in Electrical Engineering from a recognized Polytechnics
(c) First degree holders in relevant d disciplines (e.g. Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering ,Agric Engineering, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science)
